rebuild/swap questions

My 88 turbo II really needs a new engine. Im looking at doing more of a swap right now, mainly because I cant rebuild it myself and dont no of anyone around me that will. Also it needs a new clutch and exhausst manifold. The guy who has it now (for the clutch and manifold) will do the swap, clutch, and manifold for around 6k. This guy knows his stuff, he races rx-7's and works on them at his shop. Heres our thinking on prices...

$4000 for a remanufactured block with mostly new parts
$200 for clutch
$500 manifold and gasket
$1500 for labor on everything

How does this sound, or what are you opinions/ideas.

Listen man, i'm in the process of doing a swap from an automatic non-turbo to a manual turbo jdm. Up till now I payed the car 1500$ not running. I payed the turbo-engine+tranny+intercooler+ecu+harness 1300$. And now I have to spend another 400 to 700$ on extra necessary parts, like downpipe, mass air flow sensor, clutch and brake pedal, lsdiff turbo 4.11,etc. So in total it's gonna cost me between 3200 - 3500$ for an 90 turbo rx7. So if your willing to spend 5200$ to a pro who's gonna rebuild it for you, install, labor, etc. If that car means that much to you then go for it. But my honest opinion, at that price you might as well look around for someone selling an FC3 turbo. And who knows if your lucky it might even be convertible. It's all up to you to make your decision.

Unless the engine is getting brand new housings and rotors $4000 is way to much, even then you would be better off buying a reman from Mazda for far less than that. Supposedly thay are coming with new housings.

and unless you are going with a stock autozone clutch $200 is not enough. A decent ACT will be closer to $400

It would be.

And the only reason I would do it is because i have lots of money in other things on the car. And I feel that it would be a waste to get ride of it.
