Rebuild questions (oil control rings and corner seals)
I'm in the process of an S4 TII rebuild. My parts are cleaned very well.
First concern is my oil control rings. I am using new viton rings from atkins. My rings are perfect. I've read they are tough to put in with the new o-rings and all. I lubed them good with engine oil. The inner rings went in with little trouble, and they move up and down fine. The outer rings were real tough to put in. I got them in, and they move up and down, but are very stiff compared to the inner ones. However, they never get stuck. Are they supposed to be stiff if the rings are brand new?
Next item is my corner seals. The first one I put in was fine and moves freely. The second one was a little stiffer (the fit is tighter). It moves freely, but sits a little lower than the first one. Is that OK? The third one really gave me trouble. Keep in mind everything is super cleaned. After trying 8 or 9 different corner seals(!) I could not get one to sit very well. They either went all the way down or barely moved/sprung and sat very low. I finally grabbed some assembly lube and put it on the seal. It went in and seems to be like the 2nd seal I put it; it sits lower than the first, and is a bit stiffer in movement, but it doesn't get stuck. Again, is this OK?
