rebuild burning oil

1990 turbo rx7
just got the rebuilt engine in. all new seals, machined and ceramic coated end plates with a nice streetport.
its been 300km and its still burning oil, its a greyish smoke. if i take the car on a highway run and back home it doesnt smoke for awhile then starts to again at idle. the mechanic said it'll clear up after about 1000km and that all the seals have to seat in. can someone please tell me if this is normal or not. its the first time im drivin car after 2 years

Thanks

yes its normal, just be careful with the rpms while you're breaking it in.

it is possable the coolant seals (i know mazdas) do expand with heat but i have never seen a rebuild smoke much after the first few days. the coolant seal could have broken a bit or is twisted when he put it in just wait and if keeps doing so after 1000km take it back to him

300km is only 186.4miles, just be patient with it. and if it still smokes after 1000km take it back to him.

ALSO Check your turbo.

Mine was spouting oil through the rear seal and causing smoke.

It's either too much oil pressure or crankcase isn't ventying right.

Yup we have a PCV.

It's a dish like thing with one inlet on top and two on the bottom.

One line goes to the oil filler neck and the other goes to the hosuing.

Then vac lines to the TB.

The FSM has it in a diagram

Now for oil pressure. You may be pushing too much into the turbo. More than it can drain out through the return line. This oil then seeps through the rear piston seal in the turbo and gets burned. Thus smoking.

If it's really bad then the oil will push itself through the carbon seal on the intake and you'll have an oily intake.

I got my turbo rebuilt and the turbo guys removed the internal oil restrictor pill. This made too mcuh oil go into my turbo. I went and made a 3an size inlet line so it restrcit the oil going in. So far this seems to have worked.

I gave my car back to the mechanic and told him to give it back to me when nothing is smoking. He drove it around for awhile and today he told me hes going to end up ripping apart the engine again, so we'll see what happens. I'll keep u guys updated, its all under warranty. Thanks. I"ll also giive him this info.
