We're not trying to **** in his Cheerios, we're trying to warn him of the EXPENSIVE mistakes that people often make. If you want to mod your car and push the limits of what the stock fuel system can handle, be my guest. It might blow, it might not...but I think the threadstarter should at least be provided with the knowledge that running a full exhaust without any fuel upgrades has been known to blow up motors on more than one occasion.

I guess some people just have their own way of trying to get their point across that might scare the n00bs...

Sorry Ted, didn't mean to start this. It's not your responses, but how you go about saying it. I think it may have a little to do with the fact that a fraud charge was placed on my companies largest account, and so it is frozen, and I do the banking work around here... and I am REALLY in the mood to shoot someone.

Understood - don't worry about it.
It's been crazy on my side also.
I just went through a review board for a promotion, and I just found out that they are reprocessing ALL the candidates.
I work 80 hour work weeks; the first time was bad enough.
I also found out that the company is not giving up compensation time for coming in...even though the position is INTERNAL.
So, I get even less sleep - gotta rememorize TONS of data, specs, facts sheets and regurgitate them in less than 4 hours of sleep.

I know I've been a bit on edge recently on my replies, but I TRIED to be very civil about in here.
That other guys is just an idiot, and I only can take so much of that right now.
Sorry to dirty up this thread like that.

Don't be sorry. Not like you were wrong about anything you said. Further, if i had repeted myself as many times as you have, I would also probably get right to the point and lose much of the plesentries when submitting info on this board.....

He's better off knowing all the feasible doomsday scenarios before he goes into any kind of mods.

IMO, an ignition cut would have been a much better solution.
indeed but i believe the fuel cut is 8.6, and i suppose with a little over 8psi of boost you are already leaning a bit but im not too worried.

i know definately once you rip cats out of FD's tuning is an absoulte must but i didn't know you had to upgrade fueling on an FC when installing an exhaust.

im going to have to agree that i think the scare tactics are a little much for a newbie. i think a more straight facts plus advice to help the problem would be better than "oh ok in that case your engines going to be dead in a month ok" either way i still thank you for your help.

now what standalone, injectors and fuel pump should i install because the car im buying has an exhaust >.>

While Ted is very blunt and to the point, I believe much more of his info than most others. The car needs fuel mods if it's to be anything but stock. We (should) all know that the TII fuel systems are inadequete after modifications. It might not happen to blow the engine but it also might. A few bucks in upgrading the fuel system seems worth the cost over a rebuild.

well my main problem is this, and Ted im hoping you have advice that can help me.

should the fact that the current owner did not upgrade the fuel system when they put on the exhaust completely deter me from an otherwise seemingly very mechanically sound vehicle(keep in mind the owner did not drive the car much at all, it wasnt a daily beater and it only got run once a week so it didnt sit). obviously if i buy the car i plan on improving the fueling system right away, but not i am unsure from your rather vague previous comment, is the engine likely to die on me as soon as i get it in my possesion or would a new fueling system keep it alive?

As long as the engine has not been damaged already, the engine will be fine once you address the fuel issue. Get a compression test done, that should give you a good indication of the engine's health.

Some people run a full exhaust with no fuel upgrades and are fine, others blow up engines. It also depends on your other mods...an intake or TID will raise boost even more, but if the wastegate is ported it may help lower boost.

When you're pushing the limits of your fuel system like that, one clogged injector or one voltage drop can blow it up. Thats why it is recommended that you upgrade your fuel system...for me its cheap insurance. You can buy a Walbro for $100...problem solved.

thanks a lot for the advice ultradef. i will surely run a compression check, and adress the fuel problem immediately, from the sound and feel of the engine, it seems to be very healthy at the moment. hopefully it stays that way.
