rear wheel hop

I just got an 88 gtu w/86000 mi. on it . and when I hit a bump on the right side of the car the rearend hops to the right , and when I hit a bump on the left the rearend hops to the left. the car came with new tockiko adjustable shocks but the rest of the suspension looks original. I had the car up in the air and all of the suspension link feel tight by hand. any answers?
thanks

How are your tires? I had the same problem with my TII, and I thought it was a problem with the rear sway bar. I replaced my completely bald tires with new Kuhmo Ecsta ASX's about a month ago and I haven't had the problem since. "Izn't zat veird?"

Check tire pressure and how stiff is the suspension. If extremely hard, there will be no give and the wheel will "jump" as the shock will not absorb the bump, so it will jolt the car up.

I'm in the same boat as you too. The rear of the car will move around when going over a bump. It will either be springs (most likely) or in my case, the struts also need to be replaced since they are leaking and shot. Check all the struts for leakage as well just to be on the safe side. Also, since they adjustable, try turning them to be as soft as possible to try and damp the bouncing around effect. I'm deciding on either Racing Beat springs or some Eibach springs from ebay.

Another thing to consider, the previous owner obsiously replaced the struts since the old ones wore out. Now, if he rode around with bad struts for a long time, this can and will lead to the springs wearing out.

I had the same problem. Going over bumps, the back end would get all loose and the tires would feel like they are hopping. I got new struts on the rear, and it fixed the problem, handles so much better now.

I ad the car set on totally soft and It's now on 3 which is in the middle. also running on bfg r-1 dot race tires about 5 years old so there about as gippy as a high performance street tire. but they have a very stiff outter side wall. I read somewhere that if the control link aka the"dogbone link" is worn that it makes the rearend do wierd things . any body replace these links to clear up a problem.
thanks for your help.
