Rear wheel bearing play.. Odd
Thanks for tuning in once again.
The thump thump thump, that was coming from the rear of the car seems to be associated with the wheel bearings...
Odd fact 1... I had a local tire shop change a stud that was broken and they took off the hub etc etc...
Odd fact 2: Day later vibration starts, not knowing what it is i park the car, with mixed opinions i take it to the shop... They say it needs a new rear wheel bearing.
Odd Fact 3: It goes from no play in the rear wheel to about 10mm of play you can rock the tire back and forth... in just 5 hours?
Took the caliper off and am having a hard time gettin the hub nut off, it looks to me that the play backs right up to where the half-shaft connects.. The whole assembly rocks! Wtf???
is this a wheel bearing problem? Or the tire shop not reassembling everything?
Coincidence that the bearing fails a day after work on the right rear hub??

Are you sure they removed the hub? To do that, they need to remove the whole assembly and press out the hub from the bearing. If they did that, they would have been better off replacing the bearing and seal. It's only @ $40.00 for the parts.
When you rock the wheel, make certain the play is actually the bearing. It's been a while since I've mine apart, but check the other bushing that secure the hub assembly while rocking the wheel. It's possible that one of them could have been damaged during the repair.
