yeah mazdatrix knows there **** BUT I called their tech assistance line one day when this oil pressure problem fist occured and an employee of Mazdatrix said that my low pressure is OK and it wont hurt anything. i responded saying "even if it is almost reading 0 at idle?" The employee said, "yeah, its fine. That is what mine reads." he had a tone like why am I asking if this problem is an issue. WTF?

i just figured i talked to maybe a grunt employee who was around the phone at the time I happened to call. maybe, maybe not. anyway trying to say some people who work for credible sources can sometimes be wrong.

If the o-ring removed worked for you 2Lucky, cool. I think will just go my own route from all the info I have collected from you guys. I think I am going to swap the pump to just in case. Wouldn't hurt.

i hope i'm misunderstanding these posts...

the teflon ring is just a spacer! it's not meant to hold pressure... you need the rubber o-ring.

as far as the mazdatrix site goes...

what they're trying to explain is that since early (86-88) castings don't allow the use of the white spacer ring, the o-ring can sometimes slip out from pressure. their solution is to sandwich it in tighter by taking out the gasket that goes around the housing.

89-91 housings don't need anything special to seal well.

have you used a mechanical pressure guage on the system yet?

I have checked with a mechanical guage, pressure is bad. check out my thread(low oil pressure even after o-ring replacment, AGHHHHHH!) tells you what all I have done and replaced. It is regoddamndiculas.

you mentioned bad bearings too... i would think they would have to be HORRIBLE to let enough oil past them to drop the pressure. or is that not what you meant?

I would install a magnetic drain plug.

See what it catchs. You can buy them at autozone/advance for a few bucks.
