Rear Hatch question

I have an idea.

Would removing the hatch just for racing cause more drag and thus make the car slower vs the amount weight taken off the car?

Does this make sense?

if it did cause alot of drag, couldn't the bottom of the spare tire well be cut out to allow the air to pass down thorugh the rear of the car, and thus gettting rid of the drag, somewhat?

Please don't flame.. its just an idea..

put a nascar type spoiler along the top edge of the hatch to kick air over the back. it should work but will definitely look ghetto super fly.

Thats a good idea never even thought of that..

I was going to make a flat piece to go across the rear hatch lip, to stop the wind from catching inside.
