Rear hatch glass replacement.

Looked in the archive for a wile didnt see any thing on it. Some rust spots on my rear hatch have gotten rly bad so i picked up a replacement but it has no glass. How hard is it to swap the glass on them? Dont have the 120 bucks the local auto glass wants to charge me.

I dont have my car right in-front of me but from what I remember, it looks pretty easy. There are a few things holding it on there. What I would do first would be disconnect the chord that goes to the light on the glass support. Then I would disattach the two support poles where it meets the glass. For the final step, it would be preferred to have a second person help you with this. While the person helps you hold up the glass, you can unbolt the two brackets at the top of the roof then it should be smooth sailing from there. Good luck

OP is asking how to change the glass itself, not the hatch.

I can only guess that its very similar to a windshield. OP, you might be able to save a few bucks by removing it yourself and having the local guy install it.

Yup ya he still wanted the 120 from me. I have done some house windows was thinking it might be the same. Get the glass out clean up any of the goop thay use to seal and hold the glass in off, apply new goop and set in frame and let sit for a wile.

I can tell you from first hand experience that removing the glass from the hatch frame is a major PITA.
It would be a lot easier to swap the entire hatch from another car, might be cheaper too.
Good luck
