ready to pull the engine, but don't have my engine stand adapter yet, so can i...

like it says, it's ready to be pulled (just got done disconnecting any misc connections), but i don't have my adapter for rotary engines for my engine stand.

the question is this: can i just set it on the ground? if so, does it matter what side? (ie, would it be better to be on its side than sitting on the oil pan?)

The oil pan is strong. I had my TII motor sitting on it for a couple months. Even slid it around the garage some. Just got some scuffs on it. you can get some 4x4 chunks of wood and prop the motor up around the rim of the oil pan or see if you can get it to balance on the motor mount legs on some wood. A tire would work great too!

In a pinch, you can actually mount the engine directly to the engine stand using two of the studs on the front iron. Just experiment until you find something that works. Be warned, though, it si VERY off balance so you really can't rotate it once its on.

...and, from what i gather, this thing is around 150lbs, right? i only ask because, well, my apt is on the second level, so we're going to have to carry it up, and i figure 2 of us can carry it w/straps. (what sux is that we have to carry the engine hoist down in the first place just to pull it out, lol)

The bare block with nothing on it is around 200 pounds. It can be lifted with 2 people, but it will be a bitch getting it up the stairs. Plan out ways to rest ahead of time.

If you have a welder, you can make your own engine adapter very easily. Just look at a few pictures of an adapter and you'll figure it out:
