Re: Using different suspension on 86
Hey everyone.
I was wondering if there were any shocks/struts off of any other vehicle that would fit, and work effectively on my 86. The reason I'm asking is because I don't have quite the fundage I need to out-right buy the parts that I'm supposed to. If indeed this is the case, I was thinking of going to a junkyard and just pulling the good suspension off a wrecked newer vehicle. Any thoughts?

If you can't afford the car, get rid of it.
A set of Tokico shocks is under $300 for a set.
If you cheap, learn how to work on the car yourself...or ask for help in the local regional sections.
Going after junkyard parts is a crap shot...
If you're that cheap you can't afford $300 for new shocks, you really should not be messing with the car.

as far as inexpensive goes, id go with kungfu on this one. the gabe's are a good replacement.
i can almost guarantee that you would feel a difference in the handling if you used stock replacements or the next best set. for example the stock replacement ( lets call it black series) and the next level up we will call "gold"series.
the gold series may have a few advantages like dual gas chambers and floating secondary piston. features like that would give you slightly more dampening over bumps and turns, and a more linnear feel over small road imperfections.
use that set of shocks untill you have enough to go all out and get what you want.
WIN/WIN!
good luck!
