Re-install smog equipment?
I bought my N/A with a bunch of smog equip. removed. The throttle body has been stripped and ported, the EGR has been blocked off, everything has been by-passed. ACV is gone, Previous owner doesn't recall if the BAC has been removed (I have to check later on,car isn't at home)
Which is the most necessary to re-install/have equipped to pass a smog test? And can this be done fairly simply by a rookie/noob? ( I've still got to get get a manual)
I figure if i want to do the cheat test; run leaner and have the acv blowing air into the cat I'll need to install that for sure...

The most important in the airpump, the ACV, and the EGR. You might be able to pass with just the airpump connected to the cat.
When did Canada start doing smog tests?

You can get by without using a EGR on the series four. I *SMOG* ecah year without one.
The ACV and airpump plug a good working catalytic converter are the basics. Along with the Relief and Switching solenoids working right.
The two solenoids on the ACV have little to no effect on passing *SMOG*. Closer to NO effect whatsoever. One has been disabled by the ECU since twenty thousand miles and the other works only in fifth gear. *Smog* is not done in fifth gear.
You should also have a Split Air pipe with checkvale in place going to the catalytic converter.
I'm talking about going and passing *SMOG* without fudging. Fudging isn't required ....unless you have one of those 12.5 sec 1/4 miles hot rods.

I should have posted that it is an S5.
Where abouts are the Relief and Switching solenoids? How can I tell if they are working right? Can all this be re-installed fairly easy?

They are on the left side of the engine. They have colored DOTS on them. One dot is BLUE and the other is Grey. The FSM, FUEL SECTION, gives easy checkout procedures. The FSM is online and FREE. The url to it is in the FAQ thread at the beginning of this site.
Yeah. Series five have no EGR.

i found this picture on this site. It's the vacuum tubing and about three or so solenoids. See the one that has the orange plug?????/ That is a solenoid. The ones your looking for are blue and grey. Much like the dirty grey one in the jpg. Here: http://img197.exs.cx/img197/5854/ratsnest8os.jpg

Your really don't stand a chance unless you take the time to download the Fuel Section of the FSM or Factory Service Manual at this site: http://www.iluvmyrx7.com/index.htm
There are other download sites. Some or rather most take some time to download. Do it in the middle of the night or while your doing other things and save it to the hard drive. Or buy a Haynes manual from the local autostore or buy a FSM from Mazdatrix or E-Bay. I bought a spare on E-Bay last year for 30 bucks.
The airpump has nothing to do with how well the engine runs. It is 95 percent devoted to cleaning up the exaust emissions coming out of the engine. It'll only effect the running of the engine if a part of the ACV is malfunctioning/leaking. That part is called the Anti-Afterburn valve in the ACV and sometimes lets airpump air sneak by and go into the intake manifold where it'll mess your idle up a touch (unauthorized air leak).
