Talking RB header>pre-silencer>y-pipe>welded magnaflows.........

Ok guys I don't think Max will mind if I post what we did to his exhaust yesterday.

Ok MAX's car is an 88 GXL: TII hood(RICER!) TII wheels(16's?) S5 Tails(nice in the night) Marroon, FD alt(dual pully), Removed rat's nest(ala Santiago) removed PS(also ala santiago) El ghetto Magnaflow mufflers welded to the stock Y-pipe. He previously had gutted cats but he had long before bought a header/silencer combo from Racing Beat. Unfortunatly he required two additional gaskets that RB didn't provide(block-header/silencer to Y-pipe) He finally got them yesterday and told me if I had time to do the install with him in the afternoon. I did and I waited on him to PM me the time to meet up. After waiting for his slow azzm for like 1 hour(good thing I had lunch ) He arrived. We go to work within 5 minutes. I had also brought some ear plugs because I had mentioned to him that he MUST run the car with only headers. Reason for this is his brother is a domestic guy and he has a WS6 with no mufflers or cats that sounds loud and like your typical V8. MAX wanted to show him what his GXL sounds like. Anyways, after much work on getting one of the manifold nuts off with a dremmel for it didn't want to leave the stud all alone. We put on the headers and gave a listen. Me with ear plugs on and MAX got the full sound of it he freaked out when he went to rev it and I reved to WOT from the engine bay Well we finally got his silencer on and checked for leaks. He still had one at the header from the missing nut so we went to autozone to buy a new nut. My experience from his new exhaust setup:

1) Loud
2)Flames
3) 3k Resonance is badaz
4) he kept up with me very well although both of us had a bunch of crap in the car.

Personally this collected echaust thing you all talk about being quieter are you all crazy!!! My car is tons quieter than his car. I do love the echos that came off the houses at stop lights when he reved and I reved back. I beleive we made some Civic riceboy crap his pants.

Santiago

Flames are only a plus in this situation. Sounds like a bad *** exhaust. Hopefully, once I get my car back in ship shape, I can think about upgrading my exhaust.

You should hear skippydog's vert, that thing is the most sick sounding rx7 you will ever hear (and I don't mean in a good way) That thing sounds literally like someone took a spree and cut off the exhaust pipe and revved it out to 30,000rpm.

heh well MAX is pretty happy so I don't really mind it but if it were my car I would be saving pennies already for an RB cat-back.

Well it is loud when he got on it like WOT. But comparing it to my exhaust at WOT his is noticably louder. If you run around town at WOT or at high RPMs you will get noticed. But it isn't too bad.

Well From what MAX told me he only got the header, silencer, gasket for connecting the two to each other, blcok off place/screws. You will need the two other gaskets and I beleive an O2 sensor extension.

Your noise came from the tail mufflers. Racing beat center muffler works well. Unless you have nice big stainless packed straight through muffler or turbo mufflers it will be loud. I have header into 2 1/2 inch RB center muffler and then out to old school HKS cat back. Sounds a little on the loud side when under load but light throttle and idle it is OK. Oh the 3000 rpm resenance is pretty bad, I guess that is the way single center muffler is.

Yeah I need to test drive MAX's car so I can compare the power differences. I still wouldn't pay for magnaflows though. I don't think I could take it for a long time. Perhaps I am just accustomed to my quiet exhaust

I have exactly the same setup as above and for 3 yrs I was only pulled over once for excessive noise but I fought it off and won. Eventhough, I am still concerned about its noise and I now looking for a silencer I can add on to the muffler. can you guys recommend anything to quiet down my exhaust?

So dual Magnaflows are loud huh? I was thinking of doing the 7 inch polished SS ones but I don't want it to drone or be loud....

Which ones did you get?
