Arrow RB Dual Exhaust PIC request

Greetings fellow rotor-heads!

My RX7 has developed an exhaust leak. I found out today it's the driver's side resonator on my Racing Beat True Dual exhaust. I noticed there is a stud and nut missing from the flange. I have searched both here and Google for a picture of this setup, however as you can imagine the keywords are very broad. I also looked on RB's website, but they only have pictures of the newer exhaust that has a shared resonator. Mine has separate resonators that are staggered down the mid pipes. If anyone has a picture of the driver side resonator disassembled, please post it here! Thanks!

I have the same setup as you and one of my driver's side presilencer studs is also broken. I wonder if this is a common problem with the old RB true dual? Maybe emailing RB would be a good start to this fix. They may have experience with it.

I can see thier answer now, "We recommend upgrading to our re-developed true dual system that will give you an extra 60hp."

I will stick a cork in the hole, before I purchase a brand new exhaust for this car. I will have to remove it all anyway soon to pass emissions.

You can't just weld another stud on. If you weld a new one, the material from the weld will create an uneven surface and you will have a huge exhaust leak. You can't mate two surfaces with one of them having a big bulge of metal.

How was the old stud attached? Can you drill and re-tap it?

The studs in the RB presilencers are welded in. You will not be able to extract the stud no matter what. I found this the hard way.

Drill and retap it for a new stud. That's what I did and it's worked fine with no problems.

Subject: RE: RX7 True Dual Exhaust

It appears that the presilencer unit is similar to the 16401 unit listed below. If so, it does indeed appear that the stud has broken off from the unit. Like I mentioned, these "studs" are bolts that are inserted into the mounting flange, welded to the flange, then inserted into the presilencer canister and welded into place. You can remove the presilencer and "drill out" the material in the hole, then weld a new stud into place. I'm not certain how this would have broken off, these studs are pretty tough, did the presilencer make contact with a speed bump?
