Rattle Snake Type Sound On Deceleration

I have had an on going issue with a few things... Mainly the car dying when I come to a stop with my A/C running... I also get the little pops on the exhaust when decelerating with the occasional BIG back fire... The one thing that really catches my attention that may be the determining factor with whats wrong is, I get a rattle snake type sound when decelerating or just coasting... Any ideas of whats wrong?

Exactly... It sounds like the car is breathing in rhythm... It may just be some weird exhaust leak or something...

I thought that was possibly the throwout bearing.

I wished thats what it was... That would mean that I have already done the Auto/Standard swap... But I still only have the auto tranny...

Here is another attemp at describing the sound...

You know when Hannibal Lector (Spelling?) was telling Clarice (Spelling again?) about eating someone on "Silece of the Lambs"... That little noise he made... Its like that but louder...

Have you had your muffler fixed at all before?

My RX's muffler poped fast but as a weld opened up it slowly made a sound. Have you scowered over your muffler for a crack or a rusted area? Wire brush any rust and see if a hole forms, I know it sucks but it would have happened anyways and needed a weld.

It sounds like it could be something vibrating. Maybe the heat shield on the exhaust.
