Rats nest removal and WTF

So i just bought a 87 turbo 2 about a month ago only driven the car a few times (glad i didnt use it for a dd yet) because it had some idle problems and so on so this weekend i figured i would sit down with my mechanic and take it all apart clean everything, rats nest removal and so on.

Well after taking my intake manifold off i find a screw driver left in there all tangled up in the wires and under the vac lines that was just the first thing.

Then we do the removal find about 3 big vac leaks and about 6 small ones.. dont know how the car even ran

Then find out that the over flow line is running to my pcv(sp?) i think thats what its called so when i would hit higher rpms it would push COOLANT into my OIL WTF
So i changed the oil for the 4th time since having the car and only driving it like 3-4 times haha flush the radiator and everything.

Then while putting it back together we relize another problem and could be why all my lights and dash and the check engine lights were all crazy. All the wires are cut and hooked up crazy style so we sat there with a diagram sorted out what we needed and have been saudering some plugs back together.

Car starts and sounds beautiful now but my iac is going crazy but no more idle problems havent driven yet tho so we will see.

just thought i would share this so you guys know what happens when you buy a rx7 for 300 dollars haha.

good news is total its only cost

300-car
160-exhaust
180-oil and coolant
120-towing
120-mechanic labor

So not bad for a t2 with some mods fuel pump, intake, rebuild 7000ish miles ago ect.

Ben

there's more than one idle control for the TII, cept now with the rats nest removed they're only about 20% functional.. have fun with your new IAC, your foot!

with rotaries, and even most cars you have to expect it to cost twice as much as your lowest estimate and take twice as long as your shortest amount of estimated time to complete. especially in turbo applications, at least non turbo stuff is still abundantly available still at most wreckers.

Okay well the fun gets better haha so after getting it all together we start it up and it idles and sounds great then starts to pop like crazy...ugh anyone ever heard of dieseling well that's what's going on there is so much carbon build up that it gets no spark and pre detonates.. Lame
Well next weekend we will be taking the while thing apart cleaning it and replacing gaskets and the oil control rings to be safe. But good news is after we do that and since I'm getting the turbo cleaned and maybe ported it should be done and ready to start actually building it up... Well I hope so I mean the list of things been done in the last monthish of owning the car

Exhaust
New wires
Oil change(s)
Radiator flush
Vac deleAt
New bov
New battery
Timing x3
New bac valve
Next weekend engine clean and gaskets...
Oil rings.. Hmm

What am I missing? Shoul be rockin the streets though once we do that?
Any suggestions on what to check do next if I haven't mentioned it?

you might as well go full rebuild and save the rotor housings for something else.

have you ever considered doing the steam cleaning process first to try and get rid of as much carbon as possible inside the motor?

I looked into the steam kinda scares me and I think it will be fun to take it apart an see the inside and new gaskets are always nice anyway.

I would like to just buy new rotors and everything but I can't afford that at the moment but all the apex seals and everything else was replaced about 7000 ago but I think with how they had everything hooked up wrong and coolant going to my oil and runnin mad rich.. Took it's toll lucky though seals are still good. So rebuild and port will hav to wait. Sad I know.

an engine doesn't go from running great to preignition without having some other issues. carbon doesn't build up that fast, especially in a turbo, it would have blown long ago unless it has never seen boost.

Well obese thinking the same but with the amount of Vac leaks bad oil spark plugs and bad wires maybe it wasn't boosting what my gauge was saying or maybe the plugs are just full of carbon
