The rarest FC
About a month and a half ago, a black 1990 Rx-7 coupe started showing up in the parking lot of the building I work in. I took a look at it and saw that it had no sunroof and no rear wiper but had aftermarket chrome 16" wheels. The windows were very darkly tinted, but I could see it was a manual and had seat covers.
The car was shiny, but had many dings and dents. I just assumed it was a GTU because it was missing the fender stickers.
A couple of days later I noticed that it had the 4 piston front brakes and the vented rear rotors, so I thought to myself the owner did the brake conversion.
Then, today, I see the car and it has an aluminum spare on it and then it finally dawned on me that the car is not a 1990 GTU but actually a GTUs, because if it were a GTU it should have a steel spare.
Now we all know that there were 100 1990 GTUs' made and that of red, white and black, black is the rarest color.
That means this car is one of at most 33 cars like it in the world????
I wonder if the owner knows at all?????

Could be a GTU with an aluminum spare. It's not hard to find an AL spare rim.
When I had T2 rims on my S5 NA with the stock hood, people though it was a GTUs.

Joe,
Your right it could be a GTU, but the combination of no sunroof, 4 piston brakes and the aluminum spare has got me thinking......I just need to see the seats and the door jam sticker to be sure.

Jon,
Your 88 came with an aluminum spare because you have a 4 lug chassis, but you probably knew that anyway :-)
Kevin,
I know its a 1990 because registration stickers in NY list the year of the car.

nope, i didn't know that...doesn't matter, aint no spare in it anymore...dead weight btw greg, yer car looks nice on the road!! i've actually never seen my FC on the highway (how would I), I hope it turns heads as well!! that legacy 2.5 GT i was in is the latest aquisition for the shop...one of my brothers customers traded him that 97 legacy 2.5 GT for his '91 legacy turbo. it's a PIG though despite the intake and exhaust the owner put on...has a new 2001 motor (last one blew a head gasket, high miles) and some kinda aftermarket strut w/ eibachs. can you say legacy B4 swap?? already have the JDM momo interior stuff, diff. tanabe exhaust (already on) and volk gold mesh w/ polished lip and P-zeros will be on in 1 week!!

I did not want to post on what options made the GTUs a GTUs (that has been done enough lately). But I wanted to post on what is the “rarest” RX-7 speech. Now I think the 1990 GTUs is the rarest “production with standard options” (in the states) car made. Some people say it the S4 or S5 base with out a sun roof, some say the CYM FD. But those are just options or colors that were available or were special order. The GTUs had one option (beside color) dealer installed AC. But lets just say all 90’ GTUs’s came with AC (which was the case 99% of the time) they still would be the rarest production model, not taking into account of other options. Now if you want to get technical and go into the options the rarest would have to be a 1990 GTUs with out AC installed (by the dealer) and black with black interior. That is just my 0.02 So if you found a 1990 black GTUs buy it, love it, drive the **** out of it.

the VIN is the best idea, just hope he don't catch you haha No infini IV's came to america, and on the infinity shaped decal on the rear of the car it says "Infini," the FD models were "Efinis." There were no RX-7 logos on any Inifni IV's and far as I know, it was only available in a special black/dark green metallic paint. It came w/ a momo steering wheel and shifter, the wheel had the infini symbol as a horn button. Other features were recaro seats, no stereo, no power windows/locks, Pz-Zero tires, a bigger low restriction exhaust (15 hp claimed) and infini logo center caps on the BBS 16 inch mesh wheels. Shock valving and spring rates were upped along with about a 1 inch lowered ride height. Overall, a fantastic drivers car...the mods were supposed to give people the impression that the upcoming FD would bring for the coming year. Beautiful car!!

Banned. I got OWNED!!!

I have found and saved the rarest Mazda FC RX7 ever made! Now this car is rare. Really rare! Let me break this down really quick...
Ever heard of the rare 100 GTUs rx7s? Only 40 have ever been claimed and only 15 are confirmed at the time of this posting! Here are the rarest rx7 FC3S models:
1500 10AE Turbo models
1400 infini
1000 winning limited
150 final edition convertible
100 GTUs...
out of that 100 they made three color options:
red on black: 50 made
black on black: 30 made
white on blue: 20 made
We have not found or seen all 100 produced!
There was only 100 GTUs models created between 1989 and 1991.
If you own one of these rare models sign your car up to the registry list here on any of the rotary forums!
There are rumors about a restamped GTUs model...
The entire origins GTUs owners thread on the rx7club was modified, icemarks claims deleted, registry list changed to have a confirmed section and the mods agree there are not enough GTUs models to have the restamped. These are more rare than the CYM fd3s, which is just a color option, not a rare package option. This is the rarest rx7 ever produced.

My buddy has a 87 T2 white with blue interior, and is optioned with A/C and manual steering so has that special bracket for A/C only. Haven't really seen any other turbos optioned like that has anyone else? Also had 257K miles on original motor before finally kicked the bucket
It's a real T2 bought with no wheels so had these laying around and had s5 tails
