random question time! subject: Differentials

Okay, I've searched the web and the forum. Who makes a spool rear end for the n/a FC differential? IIRC I've seen one before, just can't remember for the life of me who it was

an all-aluminum peice that bolts into the ring gear and the axles slide into, except there are no spider gears, just a straight peice of aluminum to allow equal torque to each wheel. They're usually about $200-$400.

Why???
Is this a dedicated drag car?

Don't EVEN think about running such a thing on the street.
I've had a lot of friend who think they could "street" a welded rear - basically a crude version of a "spool".
They all bitched and complain how bad it was for the car, the suspension, the tires, the drivetrain...

BTW, there is no mass-produced, commercially available product that I know of.
You basically need to make it yourself as a custom one-off.

Also, I doubt it's aluminum.
Aluminum is a BAD alloy to use in such an application.
Most of the units I've seen for domestics are made of steel.

^ Yeah, my bad, my tiredness made me screw up, but I did mean spun steel. Also, "lincoln locker" rear ends are not quite as good for the rear end as a true spool. The welded spider gears, besides liking to break the welds, flex in an inoprotune manner forcing more stress at awkward times to the rear suspension. a true spool does not do this *AS BADLY*. I'm actually planning on (wait for it) building a complete tube-frame custom rear (and front) suspension with unequal length double a-arms and spherical bearings all around with as close to zero scrub radius on all four corners. I think that'd take care of the stress on the suspension part. I'm just looking for who'd make one or if I'd need to cut it myself (then take it to quartermaster and have them cut the splines in for me ).

See, I don't modify just one part without the others necessairy to handle it. That'd be like running a TII engine on an N/A drivetrane, something'd give sooner or later, but as we all know, probably sooner.
