Rain Leak? Or Missing Rubber Plug.

Whenever there is a slight rain, or heavy downpour, there is a large collection of water on my passenger side floor. (right above the ecu, which is my main concern.) I haven't had a rain to test my theory yet, so I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. The thing I notice is that there is a hole that looks like it needs a rubber plug or something, because the other side has one.

Looking at the engine bay from the front, this is the top left corner at the edge of the windshield.

Is this where rain is entering my car? The water drips down from where the passenger speaker box is, and also the plastic wall where the passengers outside right leg would rest on.

That hole is indeed a drain hole and it's highly possible that a hole has rusted through your firewall or wherever it runs beside and is allowing water in because the hole might be blocked up with trash, I know mine was and a little carb cleaner + compressed air got it flowing again right.

So do you think I should take out the right kick panel (interior) and use the flashlight method to see if that indeed is where the water is coming from?

The thing is, is that on the driver's side, on the windshield edge, there seems to be an identical hole, but that hole has a rubber plug, concealing that hole.

The first thing I would do is pull the carpet up (it shouldnt be hard and it'll go back down nicely, double sided tape works good when you go to reinstall it).

Look under the kick panel right there and check out the ECU and what not, I can put money on the fact that you will have rust in that spot, my first generation had the same exact problem and the only spot of rust was there and it wasnt bad but it was due to the fact my A/C condensor drain would drain onto the carpet before I got the car.

What I would do is have someone pour water down the hole and see if it comes out below the car, if not its going somewhere else and then try the flash light method.

Those smaler holes are drain holes that run out side the car.

The drivers one should not be plugged, or you can have leaks into the car as the trough fills with water instead of draining down and out.

I have take up the carpet and inspected my ECU. I did some ground testing with a multimeter, and found mice, part of a different thread. But I didn't notice rust anywhere. I'm thinking more of a long run issue. Here are pictures of the ECU area with carpet pulled up. (nevermind the red circle)

So if the drivers side is plugged, like in my instance, any reason why it would be plugged? There is no water collection on the drivers side, which I guess could explain the plug, and the excess drainage on the passenger side.

The previous owner might have plugged them due to the fact he couldnt get them to drain (or possibly that it was rusted through).

If you leave them plugged and it rains or water gets in the hood run it'll rust that spot up real nice!
