Rain caused total electrical shutdown.. HELP!

I have a 87 RX7 (NT)-
I was driving home from work yesterday when all my lights and power shut down and the car died. There was no noise just an instant shut down of power. I was doing about 15 MPH at the time and tapping the brakes and I was coming to a stop sign when this occured. I tried to restart the car a few times and no lights would come on in the dash - and the engine would not crank. Just silence! The radio lights would flicker for a second then go out. However the Hazards worked. After 10 minutes of waiting for the tow truck I gave it another try and it restarted and ran for 10 seconds and all power was lost again. I haven't been able to restart it since. I checked all the engine fuses and they are fine. If you have any insight please help.
Thanks,
Paxton: confused:

check the plug at the main relay if the parking lights still work.

If the parking lights don't work check your battery connections

I would bet money on dirty battery terminals, although the alternator should have kept it running. The main relay is on the drivers side of the firewall in the engine bay. Kinda by the trailing coil and brake booster.

OK, I found the relay, do I need to pull it out and replace it? I think my battery terminals are fine. I just cleaned them a few months ago. I just checked power to the lights and they work? Also, now I am getting the beeping noise when I stick the key in the ignition. (I wasn't getting that before) The car won't crank and there are still no lights in the dash, except the hazards when I turn them on. Do you still think it is the main relay?

I think what I'm getting at here is: What electrical shorts or malfunctions could water cause to shut down the engine while the car is driving? I have never had this problem before driving through heavy water in the streets. We're talking 12-18 inch puddles in some areas.
