Exclamation Radio Help

I have a 1988 Vert
I uninstalled the HUGE factory radio whew...
Now I have a Pioneer that I have been working on for about a week.
1. I have bought three dash kits that all say they are fo rmy car and year but once installed there is about an inch on both sides that are empty (you can see right to the back)
2. I bought a wiring harness that has an extra hookup for the rear speakers which I don't have and the car doesn't have but now the speakers in the head rests don't work.
3. The antena won't go up any more. I had an antena adaptor for my old car but didn't look like I needed it. There is just one connection from radio to the car for the antena right. It looks like a hollow pen or something and the one from the radio plugs into it right? But there is still one more connector in the car. Whats it for? I also still have an empty connector that is a single connector that nothing in the harness connects to it, but I haven't found a wire for the mute button yet is this it? ANy help would be greatfull. THANKS!!!!!!!!

I also have an 88 vert. My advise to you is to run all new wires to the speakers, bypassing any and all stock amps. I ran wires from the rear section of my head unit to the headrest speakers, using the stock connectors under the seats. As for the antenna, you'll see two of those in the dash..a female and male. Plug the male one into the back of your head unit, that one is for the rear antenna. The female one goes to the antenna built into the windshield, most agree it doesn't work worth anything.

ah man, this has been covered countless times, and it sounds like you are way over your head.

1. If you are using a lame aftermarket dash kit (for what ever reason you felt you needed too), the you need a kit that is designed for replacing the stock stereo w/CD player.

2. the rear speaker harness will need to be run over to the door speaker sub woofer amp located behind the drivers dash speaker. The aftermarket rear speaker plug works there on 88 verts.

3. also as covered countless times (the search function is found in the upper right hand corner of the page) any aftermarket radio would need a relay to activate the stock power antenna. There are two antenna plugs. If your aftermarket radio is not a diverstiy unit then you will need to the one that plugs in, and ignore the other.

And there is no mute.. so I am not sure what your asking for on that.
