Well certain areas around here are worse than others. I spend most of my time in anaheim, where you might see one or two cops in a week. But in irvine, where some of my family lives, theyre EVERYWHERE.

its depends on where you are. if you're up on the mountain roads where all the drift kiddies take out the guard rails, then any Japanese car can be stopped and ticketed, legal or not, basically you don't go on that road at night in a "sports car".

if you're down by Stanford they don't seem to care about anything, expired registration doesn't bother them, out of state plates are fine, they wouldn't notice if there was a cat. if you want the crazy example i drove around with no license plate for 18 months, and nobody cared

Hey chiming in because I run RB headers and catback in my NA with a Bonez cat. As far as noise is concerned, the system is really quiet compared to other exhausts I've seen and heard, even when you put your foot down. Keep in mind I daily my car as well and have never been bothered by cops.

Smell is not really noticeable, as far as I know. That's at least comparative to non-cat-equipped rotaries. Compared to say a Camry, you'll be smelling exhaust.

Backfire I haven't really noticed, very rarely do I drive my car hard enough to warrant any backfire. And if it does, it's more of a "puh" sound than a "POP!".

IMHO, go with a legal system, and avoid one more reason to get stopped, and possibly related consequences.

Basically, what Evil said.

Its funny, I daily drove my FC at your same age. Lets say that was a 'few' years ago. Anyways, I daily drove it with the full RB exhaust with the bonez cat and it was absolutely fantastic. Great sound and if you want to drive moderately quiet, it is possible. But it will scream wide open. I got pulled only once and it was because of that. I now have the pre silencer because I don't dd it anymore. Much louder, but manageable. Overall, RB = music to my ears.

Is the presilencer setup you currently have still with the full racing beat system? Is it THAT much louder? And is the smell unbearable for the street?

Yeah still full RB. You'll notice the difference in sound but nothing crazy. Just beefier and healthier sounding . Most difference is at wot. I might be a little biased because the cat goes on for 1/365 days for inspection and the car just sounds really muted. I also premix and the smell isn't bad. However, I don't daily it anymore. Overall the system sounds great either way you go. Even with the cat, there's still enough punch to put a smile on your face. Volume is the main difference, and of course, smell.

Heres a very old clip when I first put it on. Full RB with the cat.

It will sound like a Bag of angry bees.
I had a header and stock cans and it was the Stupidest sound I ever heard come out of a car.

Hahaha yeah I was getting ready to dig through my old hard drive and thought, there's no way. And I agree with the above post. Mufflers will affect the sound as well and I can't imagine what stock mufflers would do.

yeah, but the streetable header to a highflow cat, through the stock y-pipe back to a couple of Bosal OEM replacements sounds pretty damn good on mine. I only had to weld a tiny bit on the cat to reach the collector on the header.

Idles nice, screams nice, does not smell.

Or I used to liken it o a RM60 dirt bike or a can of rocks rattling around. Sounded good at idle and up to 2k. Above 3500 it was horrid. I think a chainsaw has a deeper tone once you passed 3500. I wish I had made a recording of it though, just for old times sake.
