I've had a Racing Beat header and pre-silencer on my car since early 1999. That's seven years. Had the RB Y pipe with stock mufflers at first then got a used HKS back half. The header is still in excellent shape,no rust just has turned colors from the heat. The presilencer is starting to rust some on the right side. I don't think they are stainless, though I too thought they were when I first got them. I think they are just chrome over mild steel. My point is I think they are a very durable and quality product and will last a long time. Though the presilencer is starting to rust I think it's got a good five years left in it. I wouldn't worry to much about RB durability as from my experience they will last for many years. As for which to get I like my single(though I have HKS mufflers) but I have no experience with the dual so I can't comment on it. On a side note the welds on the HKS system are rusting especially on the Y pipe.. I've had it six years but it was used when I got it so no idea on it's real age. No rust on it when I installed it though. It is the 50mm catback Mazdatrix sells. Point being just because it comes from Japan doesn't mean it won't eventually wear out. I'm sure the RE Amemiya is quality stuff but you pay a premium for it.

Well, I think I am going with the collected system for simplicity sake(unless someone can prove that the true dual is better).

Unfortunately I don't. It sounds nice, with no tinny sound. It's reasonably quiet below 3000rpm, then it drones for a bit untill about 4000rpm, then it gets higher and higher pitched and it really screams at high rpm. I really like the way it sounds. At first I was disappointed that it wasn't any louder, but now I think it's perfect, as any louder would get seriously annoying and tiring for long journeys and may generate too much of the wrong kind of attention. I heard a couple FC's with true duals at a race in Seattle and they sounded weird, like they were hardly revving at all, it was a much deeper, lower sort of sound. Apparently everyone kept telling them not to short shift, but they weren't, it just sounds different.

No, he's saying that you will have to swap out your whole exhaust because the stock cat will not work with the road race dual system since its not a collected header that would fit the cat.

RB stuff kicks ***. I have a full turboback RB exhaust, its great!

I have some but they are too large to uplaod and I don't have anywhere to host them. I can send them to you or someone else if they want to host them. Just PM your Email. One thing to remember is I have the HKS mufflers. They sound different than the Racing Beat mufflers. I think the RB have a raspier sound to them. So if you listen to mine you still won't know exactly what the RB collected setup will sound like.

comparing a rotary sound to a v8 sound doesn't make a bit of sense. I used to have an apexi exhaust before I realized it was too loud. even on a TII swapped car

I know im probably gonna get flamed for mentioning the "H" word but im seriously into my new mazda and im looking for some real advice. I mean i've never even heard of RB or RE Amemiya so i just want to get an idea of wut's out there so i dont waste money, because god knows i did enough of that on my civic.
ah, apexi doesnt make a GT exhaust for the RX-7 in dual form. Their GT series is single.

Damn, that sounded good.

Too bad I can't hear a Racing Beat catback, so I can compare the two.

thanks

are you sure? on the site it just says it makes a 37% or 59hp increase just for the exhaust. false advertising! Are you sure sure? I just thought and I've heard, that the stock exhaust is restrictive as hell.

"The bolt-on exhaust system increases horsepower approximately 32% - a 59 HP increase on a 1987 Turbo II RX-7!" quote from the site and here's the link

http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda2.htm

Edit: ahhh I see what you're saying, the exhaust increases boost, gulps fuel and kills the engine...... **** that, catback it is.

Just get their "fuel cut defensor" or consider the Rtek 2.0 ECU upgrade which includes the "fuel cut defensor" as well as removing the "accelerated warm up" (which is good if you get rid of your cats and do the turbo back version). It also includes a "fuel pump" cut that helps you if your engine gets flooded. Beyond that, it offers engine management using a Palm OS PDA (much simpler than a laptop). We're on the verge of getting our own subforum in the Engine Management section where we can share information.
