R Brake Pad Spring - Already Searched
I am having trouble with re-installing the V-spriing on the rear brake pads.
Is there a "trick" to it?
Everything else is done.
Please advise
Thanx

what kind of trouble? I just did rear brakes on my 86, no problems.
spring goes in holes in middle of the metal backign on the pad, as I recall on the rear the spring goes ^ and you close the caliper down on it. It was a royal pain to get the caliper over the little "nub" on the back of the pads :-)
See the service manual on teamfc3s for pictures.

^^^ Yea, you get the two pads on first and then stick one side of the spring into the little hole on top of one pad and the do the other. You must have some problem like the holes were ommited in you rnew pads. Do the new pads exactly match the old ones???
you probably did the same thing I did on my very first time replacing my rear brakes oh so long ago. I'll bet you took the whole caliper off. , just remove the bottom bolt on there and the back swings up, put in pads, put V-Spring ends in holes on pads.

Yep
I took the complete caliper off. Now I know that was wrong to do.
I can get the pads on easily, but I can not get the V spring on both pads and installed.
Also, should ther be 1 or 2 V springs.
Thanx

i get that...but again. doesnt i make more sense to just use 2 springs so the pads front edge doesnt rub on the rotor and get beveled? i mean...i was screwing around with it today and i dont know....2 v's just seemed so much smarter because of its equalness
All the spring is there to do is put enough pressure on the pads to keep them from contacting the rotor until the brakes are activated. If your brakes are working correctly then your caliper piston will push the pad against the rotor. The spring does its job until the piston is activated so two springs aren't really needed for what they do.
well i have 6 new springs so i doesnt really matter. do u guys think i should just go with 1 or say hell and just go with 2? on my old pads, about a quarter inch or so, the pads are beveled on the edge because the spring only pushes on one side while the other is just dragging its *** on the rotor.

for the vented rear brakes it is FB05-26-233
for the sold rears it is FB01-26-233
Mazda USA doesn't have the FB05, so it would be 6-8 weeks from Japan
it also comes in the hardware kit FB06-49-290B vented/FB02-49-290B solid, Mazda USA has plenty of both
