Quick S5 Alarm LIGHT question.....

Hey guys i'm doing the wiring for my "custom" headlights and I am situating the power switches in the center consol(arm rest area) but I have to toss the stock Alarm "security" light. I already started the car without it plugged in so I am guessing it doesn't keep the car from starting or make the alarm go off. But i'm planning on using the power lead from it for the 12v source for the switches(they activate the relays so no high power draw) will this cause any problems as far as the "security" ??

Santiago

I didn't bother checking the FSM because this isn't really a "stock" thing i'm forking around with it.....

IIRC the light is a switching ground... Check to make sure that it has a cosntant 12v+. Shoudl be constant, even when the car is off, *IF* its a stock switching ground.

Coincidentaly, I used the foglight 12v+ for a similar switch setup. No real amp pull off the circuit, probably under. 5amp. A few years later I removed the switch and mock wiring I had. Then one day I was driving, and lights wouldn't come on.

I was like ****. Took me about 10 hours to trace the wiring back to the original fog light switch where I had my custom wire before. The wire had ground-shorted and started popping the big-amp fuses in the engine bay. That was a nightmare.

Lesson: I don't know what that security circuit ties into, but if it ever gets shorted, and the secuirty circuit goes south, you're probably not going to have much fun tracking down why your car won't start.

I'd say do it right and take teh 15 minutes and $1.50 to run 4 feet of 24awg wire. (if its just for switches like you said)...
