i dont think you really need it i know a guy who removed his and he said his turbo spooled up quicker and i think its pretty much useless anyway its used only when you start the car then it opens but it still restricts the flow

It does NOT only work when you start up the car, WTF. READ THE FSM BEFORE POSTING. It is for quicker spool, god..

Your friend thinks his car spools faster because he did a mod. A butt-dyno is worthless.

You can take it off. I have had 4 TII, and all of them have been removed, half the time they dont work anyways. Even mazda realized it didn't work to well. They eliminated it on the s5 model.

It's got nothing to do with mileage; it's there to reduce turbo lag. If you want more lag, take it off. If you don't, then don't.

Pretty much everything in this post is wrong. The twin-scroll system has been proven to reduce low-rpm turbo lag, so it is definitely not useless. If your mate's turbo spooled quicker after removing it then it was obviously broken beforehand. And it's is not used "only when you start the car"; the flap is closed anytime the engine is below 2700rpm.

It's a very simple system that is easy to make work properly. About the only thing that can is likely to go wrong is a vac leak, which is easily fixed.

Even mazda realized it didn't work to well. They eliminated it on the s5 model.
It was replaced with two newly developed systems (fully divided manifold and electronic boost control) that made it unnecessary. It wasn't replaced because it didn't work. Like I said, its effectiveness has been well proven.

if you stay with the s4, keep it and make sure it's working properly

otherwise just do the s5 turbo and manifold

Yep.. disabling the twin scroll will cause you to wait around all day for boost.
