Quick Question

Hey gentlemen,

I just have a quick question. I recently bought a 1987 RX-7 GXL, the car only has 124,000 miles on it and the engine is in excellent shape. The problem is that the shifter is really really loose. It does not grind through the gears or anything, and shifts very smooth. The problem is that the stick is so loose, you can tap it with your thumb and it moves so easily its like it not even a shifter, it just moves so freely. My question is, do you think its just the shifter or is it a deeper transmission problem. Any ideas please help me out. Second question is the speedometer goes way off the meter. When I'm only going about 45mph the speedometer goes off the meter saying i'm going 140 mph plus. What can I get to fix this problem or what do you guys think the problem is attributed to? Thanks guys for reading.

Yeah, it's a common problem. See the video at Mazdatrix. NOT expensive.

as for the speedo, does it steadily run up to 140? or does it bounce around a lot?
