Quick help with wiring
Ok, when opening the AFM (or bridging the fuel pump check-connector), does the fuel pump recieve full voltage or partial voltage? This is with an 88 'vert (NA) set of harnesses.
On pg 50-36 of the 88 FSM, the diagram for the relay shows the AFM circuit with a resistor & capacitor bridging the solenoid coil. My first guess would be that this is to smooth the signal from the AFM in an idle or low load situation when it could be swinging, but I'd like to make sure. Thanks!

You mean the Circuit Opening Relay??????????????????? That's the only thing I see on that page realted to the topic.
Sorry, I see what your talking about but Im not qualified to say what it's purpose is. BUT, let it be known on a non turbo car the voltage is whatever is available at the battery.
That relay in that picture has two coils to pull in the contacts to the fuel pump. One coil is controlled by the afm's internal switch. The other coil that can pull the contacts together is from the START circuit. When you HOLD the key to start, the R/B wire gets 12vdc put on it as long as the key is HELD to that position.
So there's two ways of making the contacts in that relay come together (if you don't count the jumper in the fuel check connector).
ON TURBO cars there is a another relay/resistor packagae that does cut the voltage going t the fuel pump to 9vdc when no LOAD is put on the engine. IT is not the one on that page though.

yea, thats what i was talking about, the circuit opening relay. Dont all relays open or close circuits? dumb name... So when the brown wire is connected to ground (black wire, what you do when you jumper the check connector), then the fuel pump will get full voltage. Great, thanks!
