well my car hasn't been starting and holding an idle . it dies immediately. and I haven't been able to track down the leak, so I figured it could be the acv. I'm removing it right now. one of those nuts is impossible to reach though

Doubt it's the ACV. Probably an AFM problem...Is it plugged in? Is there a huge crack in the black intake tube?
If those two things check out (and the AFM tests good as per the factory service manual) then in cases like this it's best to start by replacing ALL the vacuum lines and intake gaskets.
