questions about momo hub adapter?

i have a mazdaspeed steering wheel with quick release. i need the hub adapter so i can put it on. problem is i dont know how close my wheel will be to me after i put it on. does anyone know if i can cut down and weld the adapter? OR exactly how close my wheel will be to me. i dont plan on racing or "drifting" but this wheel fits my hand like a glove and i want it on my car.
