Yes, you can put a turbo 2 motor in. The ups are Turbo (more power, etc), the downs are that it's expensive, and time consuming, and can be frustrating, depending on your level of technical expertise. First step is to start reading: I'd recommend starting with the stickies at the top of the forum, especially the FAQs, because it has a lot of good information about the conversion process and others.

I have an 86 GXL myself, and I love it. I just got it back on the road two weeks ago, on a freshly rebuilt engine, and I love the power options, even if they do add a bit of weight..

To get a more informed answer about whether the car is a good deal or not, see if you can get more information about it's "motor problems", and take it for a test drive. if you tell us the mileage and asking price, we can probably tell you whether the deal is worth it or not.

Ps - Always read the FAQs and such posted at the top of forums.. asking questions like the one about the turbo swap is liable to get you flamed

IMHO if you want a turbo RX7, get a turbo RX7. Swapping is going to cost you more than a TII would.

what are the engine problems? 128k on a N/A is much, a buddy of mine has a GXL with 210k on the origional engine. If this is your first car, a N/a like a GXL, or a SE is a good Idea, and $500 seems like a deal. Go to www.aaroncake.net and read the "How To" on buying a N/A FC. if the car checks out, then get it. If you have troubles, just search around here, and if you don't find a fix, ask. I'd go for getting the GXL as a first car.
