A question for those who have been there
Allrighty, so here's the deal, months ago i bought my 86 rx7 n/a with a little over 115,000 miles on it for 1200 bucks. From joining this forum and reading up on what i have been able to , i've grown a lot of respect for our rotary engines. But for now i'm stuck in a rut. The engine recently quit on me after having a spark issue with it. The spark was jumping out of the end of the plug wire and into the outer case of the engine, so i drove it a couple days waiting for the new plugs and wires.... until it stalled out in my driveway one day.i finally put the new plugs and wires in it and tried starting it up. no go, dragged it behind my friends truck for a mile trying to roll start it, the only result i got was a crapload of smoke to trail behind me. When it's turning over it's loud and whiny, so after asking a couple rotary techs around town they explained to me that the motor is blown.... that the apex seals are probably worn too much to hold compression and that they probably ruined the case and rotors along with it. All in all they said i should just get a new motor, yet this i can't afford. I have a couple hundred and with the help of my dad, we can scrounge up about 600-700 bucks. With the understanding that i'm currently going to auto. school every day 80 mile round trip and that i have a couple of weeks to spare before i can't borrow my family's vehicles anymore, I just have a couple of questions.... Would it be worth it to take out the 13b and to check if everything's within specs so that I could rebuild it, or would it be safe to say that it's not worth my time because it's not going to be worth it? Or in the long run, would it be best to swap a used motor in it.... I've checked around and i can't find a reasonable engine for the money that i have to work with. I'm motivated to do a rebuild and i'm hoping that's what it may come down to. So all in all, thanks to anyone's input on what they've got to say, i just need ensure myself that it's either going to be worth it or not worth it. Thanks a lot guys.

do compression test before u start thinking about rebuilding, maybe there is nothing wrong with your engine, just flooded
if u remove all spark plugs, spin it up without them u might find a lot of fuel in there (if u haven't done it before, u probably just fouled up your new plugs as u tried to get it started)
next thing would be checking proper ignition wires, hooked up correclty and fresh and clean spark plugs (make sure they are actually firing)

yea you guys may be right, i shouldn't just assume it's dead, i'll do some compression tests over the weekend. I also forgot to say that a couple weeks ago i had adjusted the timing because it was misfiring randomly, the CAS was siezed up so i had to use a hammer and a punch to turn it side to side ... removed a/c pump belt to reach at the adjusting nut flange to use to bang it, annnnd along with that the eccentric shaft pulley has rusted rims so that the timing mark isn't visible. i adjusted it listening to hear if it could run any better.... i left it to the point i felt it sounded best with the least amount of misfiring, but i don't know if it'll be possible to do a true timing on it without getting a new pulley or somehow finding out where to mark the dot on the pulley. For all i could know, the timing could just be really far off. All in all i feel that the rx7 has a lot of testing ahead to be taken care of.
