Question: Spec-ing the internal parts

ok, My engine is sitting on my kitchen table and is ready for cleaning and inspection... so far everything looks good, but I may need new side irons... Ive got one delima thought that im not sure about. This is the first rebuild I've ever attempted, so im following the Bruce Taruentine Rebuild Vid.

In the vid, it shows him taking specs for every seal in its perspective place. My problem is that when I was disasembling the engine, it was on a floor, not on a stand like it should have been, trust me if I could have done it on a stand I would have. it sucked ***** doing it like that... anyway, I found all the parts, bolts, nuts seals, and what have you, however they were not in the perspective slots. I plan to buy new RA seals anyways. would it make a difference if i spec'ed the rotors with different seals?

what should i do now? I dont want to spec them wrong and build crap...

If you plan to reuse the any of the seals (side seal, corner seal...) it is best to put it back in the same location that you took it out of. If you don't know then you just have to examine each part and find the best fit. Example: You have 12 side seals and some are longer than others. If you plan to reuse them then try each one in the same location and pick the one with the best fit (I like to go zero tolerance on the side seals for higher compression, I think bruce says something like .005). You will probably end up buying one or two new seals because they will be to short for any of the slots. Does this make sense or am I just blabbing?

As far as spec'ing the rotors relative to RA seals I'm not sure. I use OEM because I think they are worth the extra $. I bet Rotary Resurection has your answer with that one.

-Because you are asking good questions and you have a video you should be fine. I wouldn't worry about building crap.
