Question on re-using side seals

I couldn't turn up what I was looking for in a search, so hopefully somebody knows this quick.

How much do side seals wear? What is the criteria for replacing them?

The FSM only gives a protrusion amount (.020"). I'm guessing that's with the spring free...seems like an awfully small amount, all mine are WAY over that.

https://www.rx7club.com.ar/vb/viewto...0d4fe295f2b8c4

That site lists .112-.124" as a specification for height, but I have absolutely no idea where that information is from, looks like it's for a 3rd gen though.

I have a ton of used seals, I plan on finding the long ones in spec and clearancing them down as if I was using new seals. I already have new springs.

I would do it, but hey I've only built one motor and i just bought new Mazda side seals and clearanced those. I didn't have a bunch of seals lying around.

Check in the Rotary Car Performance section, there is a lot more in-depth discussion of engine building there.
