Question for NA owners with modded exhaust

Well im having doubts on what to do with my race pipe so im wondering how its like for you other NA owners with cat.back plus midpipe/headers? My set up now (CS cat back to straight pipe with presilencer till exh. manifold.) is really loud and can easily get the cops attention. After 2900rpm is when it gets noisy. I thnk I may be suffering from an exhaust leak but dont think it'll bring the noise down that much even if I do fix it. Is it that loud for some of you guys? If so, do you ever run into problems with local law enforcement/neighbors? Also, I was planning on going back to the stock set up after gutting both my pre. cats, how does that compare to my current set up(sound/power wise)? Thanks in advance

I've heard a few NA setups and they are usually pretty loud, thats just the way it is. The best sounding one I've heard had straight pipes put in place of the cats and had 2 cheap mufflers put on. It sounded very very nice and pretty deep. Still was fairly loud when you wanted it to be though. The corksport catback is known for being loud. I think you should just sell it and buy a quieter catback such as the RB.

Yea im gonna need to make a sacrafice somewhere in my set up unfortunetly. The reason I went with the CS set up was the larger pipe diameter and weighs a lot less and price I orginally wanted the RB turbo cat back but needed something to replace my rust heap quickly. this sucks......

I have a 91NA with RB header & presilencer, and a HKS 50mm catback. It has a low rumble sound, but its NOT annoying loud.

I said it before, CS catback is a waste of money, unless you have a T2 with 2.5 downpipe & midpipe, and even then I wouldn't consider the CS.

You are trying to baffle your 2.5 exhaust system with a 3 inch muffler. There is your problem.

I am running a full custom exhaust, except the manifold. Thats stock. The Cat is a high flow model, and the mufflers are Magnaflows. I am getting a race pipe made, and will eventually get the header, but right now that system is LOUD! I stay off the pedal whenever the cops are around, even though Exhaust Works, the place that did the system, assures me its legal.

So what are some of the opinions on what my best options are while perserving power but keeping sound and price in mind at this point...........
(keeping in mind I have no job right now)
I could go with the stock cat set up again while gutting the pre cats or........ *any other suggestions?*

I'm trying to tell you, its all in the catback. Just sell the CS one and use the money towards a RB one.

Maybe this guy will part with the catback:

I'm just running straight, no cat or anything, and two cheap-assed (i'm assuming, they're small in diameter and came with the car) mufflers for the cat back, and I love the sound my car makes It's deep, low, and i think it annoys the neighbors, but i don't really care.. . I'm considering putting glass packs on to annoy the neighbors more (long story, don't ask, suffice to say my 'hood sucks).

Either way, i don't take have to take it too easy around cops, i've moved from a redlight next to a few before... no big deal.

I almost got a ticket for excessive noise just for having a crack in my stock system, but I was actually pulled over for driving without lights (headlight switch failure, my headlights and interior lights were on but my front ambers and red tails were not, I had no way of knowing it so the cop let me off). In short, noise is all in a cop's head, it varies individually. As long as you are below 95 decibles, you should be legally fine.

Then again, my father can hear me coming from a block away, and he is a firefighter of 28 years. Needless to say, sitting below those airhorns all these years has had a negitive effect on his hearing, to say the least... so I may be a liitle loud

I got a bonez straight pipe to a n1 single sided exaust. Its pretty loud, loud enough to give me a headache at 3k, loud enough to force me to take highways to avoid cops as much as possible, and loud enough to keep me satified
I love it though really its really low tone sound, and it backfires like crazy. Had to get the silencer though for during the week on days i gotto work

Yea, my setup's loud too, and Id love to keep it but its very hard for me to have fun with my car on the streets without being very paranoid about cops. The cars just amazingly loud after 3krpm but sounds amazing after 7k. Ive debated getting a silencer but then again the comes down to when am I going to be able to take the silencer off? It'll be on the car almost all the time.

May I suggest a RB turbo Y pipe, and two Dynomax 2.5 utlraflow mufflers. It will be loud, but not nearly as your current setup.

I dont know why mine sounds so overly loud. I'll check for exhaust leaks tomorrow and see if that solves anything.

Mine was loud too! I have a RB Header to a RB Presilencer. I then bought the CS single side out exhaust. I had to weld in a borla muffer, sounds great now. Rotaries are just noisy, once you make them free flowing you have no more (or little) noise prevention.
P.S. Stay a way from the exhaust tip silencers, they suck. They restrick the exhaust and you lose muck horse power. Put the money into a good system.

But do they really quiet down the car? I also have the RB header & pre-silencer and magnaflow exhaust.
