Question on Homemade TID

Ok i found this link.

http://1300cc.com/howto/how2/TID.htm

It looks to be not too hard, but i am wondering.

I am running a haltech, so i have no afm.

Wouldn't my filter be best with some sort of ridge to hose clamp onto? i'm worried it will slide off. My Filter is 3" opening.

Or will it be fine just clamped to the 3" Straight piece of abs pipe?

I thought since you had the haltech you could just hook the intake to the turbo with no piping involved.

It should be fine. If your concerned, take a dremel and grind out a lip.

ok, now also.

Whats better, straight off the turbo or piped to the front?

it will only have that one 45 if piped to the front.

To use my filter on the stock turbo i'd have to buy a 3" piece of pipe, cut it a couple inches long, put filter on one side, and then the 3"-2" reducer on the other to mate to the turbo.

What would be best?

Obviously as straight as possible would be best, however that would place it in a bad location for drawing in cool air.

Why would you want the engine's intake to be in the hottest point in the engine bay? Hot air kills power and lowers the dtonation threshold. You should always place the intake in a place where it only gets cool outside air. So even without an AFM you still need a TID.

TAL, the filter should be fine clamped securely to the end of the pipe, as there's no pressure to push it off. Personally I'd never use plastic piping though...

normally i wouldn't either.

It's only temporary, getting car tuned on thursday, and wanted to do this before hand.

I'll get it welded up later on.
