Question on BoMeX install

Question on BoMeX install
To those of you who have installed a BoMex bumper:
Do we need the long metal bracket that attaches to the 3 smaller pieces that attach to the top of the front bumper? It looks to me like a couple of L-brackets will do the trick....I gave up last night after getting chow'd by 10,000 masquito's.....Nice bumper though!!!
any ideas?
