I was wondering if anyone could tell me the difference between the years of the T2's because I am a bit confused. In the AutoTrader there is a dealer selling an 1987 (Or so he says) T2. Now, I have been looking at parts for T2's and the majority of them say they only fit 89-91 (Such as the Front Lip Spoiler). Can anyone clarify this for me please? And Thanks.

 

There are S4 and S5 2nd gens. S4's are 86-88, and S5's are 89-91. It's basically the same body with different accents and the S5's have a bit cleaner look.

87 was the first year of the Turbo II rx7

 

Yes it pretty easy. There are two styles of rx7s, S4 built in 87-88 and the S5 built in 89-91. There are TII as well as N/a versons available. There are a couple differences between the mechanically and apearance wise for tIIs(we will leave n/as out). S4s came with lower compression, a twin scroll turbo and manifold whichs spools quicker. But ran less boost from the factory around 5.5 or 6. They were rated at around 180 hp. The s5 came with a different turbo that flows better, higher compression, and ran something like 7-8 psi I believe. They were rated at a higher hp(I think 200 or 210 hp) but spool a little slower than the S4. The s4s and s5s have different front bumpers and tail lights, and a few other differences. I love my 87 TII personally but I think the front bumper for the s5s looks better. So there you have it. Also s5s have color matched moulding but s4s do not.
