Question about Starter Motor

There's a wire with a little black box and what looks like a ground ring on the end. It comes off the wire harness near where the harness connects to the starter motor. Does anyone know where this ring is supposed to be connected? Is it just ground too? It comes off the same branch of wires that the BIG ground ring is on down there. My car's a S5 Turbo II btw. Thanks for any help in advance.

I just replaced my starter.. There's two wires on the starter. A bolted-down wire, which is thick. And a thin wire that has a small black spade connector. Your description was kinda fuzzy, but I think you're talking about that larger wire, correct?

If I remember correctly, it is a ground that the top starter bolt goes through.

Though mine is an S4 T2, I just pulled mine yesterday and dont think I saw a "black box" anywhere on the wires. Might be different for yours. Not quite sure what you mean on this.

It sounds like the oil gauge/sender capacitor. It usually bolts to one of the slave cylinder bolts but just about any engine/transmission bolt will do.

The author is not talking about the large wire that connects to the long starter bolt that IS the ground for the engine.

When I took mine off the other day, the long bolt had a bracket with a threaded hole on it, towards the front of the bay. Is that the ground you just refered to? Cuase mine had nothing on it and Ive been having electrical issues and have only found 1 ground on the chassis so far, which is under the main fuse block on the fender well. So this might have something to do with my problems. Also where does the wire that goes to it come from, if that is what and where it is.

I think Hailers nailed it. I'm going to try hooking it up today and see if the car will start. I grounded that really big ground ring to one of the bolts that connects the tranny to the back of the engine.

The one I was talking about is this one https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/what-where-does-go-568916/ . Someone Pm'd me about this thread. Hope that helps someone else too.
