Question question about rims and drifting

hello. i am just getting in to RX7's yet i have loved them for as long as i can remember. i just got 2 86 rx7s this last weekend. and would like to know what do i need to know about rims when equipping my rx7. does the back rims need to be a little heavier then the front? if i dont lower it and keep it stock, what size rim is best? and all this is to take in consideration that i want to drift it a little and race it and have fun . thanks, hope to hear good answers , thanks

Wheel weight doesn't matter at all if one is heavier than the other, just that it will be more mass to turn for the engine. Maybe you mean a staggered fit as in a wider one in back than the front? The stock wheels are all the same size, all around.

As far as the lowering and which wheel is the best, everyone has their opinions. My 7 came with the convertible BBS wheels, 15" which seem to be the lightest that came with 7's and have a nice look. For this reason I am keeping my small 15" wheels. On top of that I also went to 225/50/15 for tire size on those wheels, it gives it a thinner profile and a bit wider contact patch. If you want to have fun with it try the stock wheels and different tire sizes would be my recommendation.

Also, there is an FAQ at the top of the 2nd generation main page. It will answer all your questions about wheel fitment....

You missed the memo?

You need negative offset, atleast 17x9's and coilovers to drift.

The rest of the car is pretty unimportant.

You must find the special Dr1fting rims that all rx-7's are equiped with from the factory, although they only came with one, they are in the back in front of the tail lights and behind the carpet.

you should have 2 so you're all set.
