Question about a part of the AFM

Ok on the AFM right near where an aftermarket filter fits on there is a nipple with a diamater about the size of a nickel that looks like a hose should hook up to it(it is facing towards the rear of the AFM). I drive my car alot and it doesnt seem to have any ill effects by leaving the nipple open with no hose on it. Should there be a hose or should i plug the hole? Also I just mad a TID, is it imperative that I put a vacuum nipple on it and reattach the vacuum line that went to the previous stock TID?
