a question about my idle

with my 88 rx7 gxl when i start it the engine revs up to about 2600 RPM on it's own gradually (it takes about 7 seconds to get there) and then it drops to under 1000 and that's where it idles. often times the idle is like 600. is that good, bad, is there a problem?
thanks for any help.

That's almost normal. I wish mine was that consistant.
the initial fast idle is to warm up the pre-cats. Just tap the throttle to drop it down to the thermo-wax cold idle stop.

No, it sounds like the fast idle is not set right. It should go to approx 3000rpm when the car is cold, for 17 seconds, then drop to approx 1100 and over a period of time slowly go to 750. The *PERIOD OF TIME*, is the time it takes the water to warm up which you can observe by looking at the temp gauge.

If its going up to the figure of 2600 and then after 17 seconds going directly to the 600 figure, then its just a matter of setting the fast idle circuit. Go to the manual, please. Whatever you do, don't ask me. I've tried to explain how to do it but it usually just turns out gibberish. Follow the manual. Its in the FUEL SECTION, either 4A or 4B.

Bottom line: cars broke
