Question about FC exhaust setup

One of my buddies constantly used to give me crap about the exhaust setup on the FC. He said that the "duel" tailpipe setup was completely phony and only for looks. In his opinion, that was complete crap.

Is there any functional reason why the FC has a duel exhause tailpipe setup, or is it really just for looks?

Depends on the setup. Racing beat has a "True" dual exhaust setup. Stock it's usually an oversized single pipe to a Y-pipe. One reason for this is to reduce noise. there's a thread on here about quieting down an exhaust system.

apprently a single exhaust raises the db level of the exhaust compared to a dual setup. Flow is another thing to keep in mind. if you have a restrictive "true" dual exhaust you'd theoretically would get more horsepower with a single large exhaust. depending on your desired results you may want to go a large single without a cat (for track for example). but for being street legal you'll need to keep the db down and the emissions low (which means you may need to keep the cat and install a presilencer).

A good functuanal reason would be to have two small mufflers instead of one big muffler that can bang against the ground. Other than that it doesn't matter too much.

If he thinks it is crap, then ask him how many other vehicles are set up the same way.

What does he drive?
