Question about ebay parts.

More specifically, clutch/flywheels.--Well flywheel mostly.

Most of my close-knit group of friends have had good experiences with ebay HD clutches. but I am more intested in the flywheel aspect of all of this. Anyone have any experience with lightweight (more specifically F1 racing/gripforce) flywheels?

I see that I can get a nice deal if I buy that specfic brand, but I dont know if I'm gonna die from poor quality. Also, I see differnet threads, some saying something about needing a counterweight and some say nothing. The car in question is an 88 GXL

Long story short---Ebay lightweight flywheel or stick with fidanza/ACT?

You will need a counterweight.

Stick with fidanza as ACT does not make a N/A flywheel.
(I know ACT has an N/A flywheel on their website, but no, they do not make one as it is in fact a turbo flywheel)

honestly for 219.00 for the na stage 2 flywheel, i would try it. I would also buy a stage 3 xtd 6 puck clutch and pressure plate for 158.00. I have no experience with the flywheel, but coupled a t2 motor to my na trans and have no prob with this clutch "kit".

don't do it. My buddy bought a clutch off of grip forces. we put it in and it completely failed on us. Everything felt like a gear, it would not go into reverse. so we ripped it out. Clutch smelled like butt after just running for a couple of minutes

dvs1990 did you install it correctly?
i find it hard to believe you got buttsmell after a couple of minutes. It is also impressive that you got the recomended break in period achieved in "minutes".

screw ill admit it i bought and put on a xtd clutch and it was crap. it did hold tho but the pressure plate was way way way way to soft actually softer than stock. it held fine and grabbed fine on my turbo ii at 240hp but the pressure plate is shitty and peddle is way to soft. to it off and did it the right way and put in an act. oh and for some stupid reason i decided to use there throw out bearing and thats exactly what you should do with it throw it out.

with the flywheel i dont have exp with f1 but i do love my fidanza i never have to resurface it just buy a new plate thats 80 bucks and your all good. act is good but if you plan on reusing the flywheel more than twice like buying a crapy clutch and need a new one then i would go fidanza dont for get that you do have to buy an auto counter weight for your year car.

Even if you get it installed by a shop, the good XTD lasts about 5k miles. The great ones 15k miles. Their PP is a rip off of someone else's design and does not hold nearly the amount they advertise.

Research it on the boards, then come back and try to make wise-*** comments.

umm....158 dollars for 15k miles doesnt seem that bad to me. I have michael jacksoned the **** out of mine for 4k and its as happy as ever. How is telling someone they installed their clutch wrong a "wise comment"? I would hate to see a dumb comment by your standards.

Except the average is 158 Dollars for 5k miles when you can spend $200 and get a clutch that lasts 60k mils...its pretty dumb.

Take your 160$ clutch and shove it up your @$$!

I have this exedy stg 1 and have used it for drag/drift for about 45k miles and it still bites hard.

And since you refuse to do any searching, here is the nitty gritty.

http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43713

And since you probably wont read the link here is the synopsis.

- XTD makes knock off clutches, buys shitty stock or less then stock PP's and paints them red.

Action Clutch tested a XTD PP vs a Stock Replacement for one car and found the XTD clamped 100ft/lbs LESS then stock even though it advertised 35% more clamping power.

Thank you farberio. I've known XTD clutches and PP's are bad. I tell all my friends every time they say they are looking for a new clutch and found a cheap one on ebay to stay away from XTD.

Usually, when replacing a clutch, it's advised not to go cheap. It'll save you a lot of money in the long run.

oops..... damn that sucks i put in a **** clutch and was defending it and being a wise ***. My fault farberio. I think my agression is because i havent had sex in going on 2 months. I have been taking it out on the world and realized today that this is probably my issue. Please accept my appology. 1st step is coming to the realization that there is an issue. I DO search though. I built my car through searching. Maybe not on this topic enough though. Your **** are not shitty.

OK clutch is slipping like fat people on icey sidewalks.

**** XTD. Put engine at 154,000 or so, just hit 160,000 and clutch is john f kennedy.

those researching xtd, save up another 148.00 and buy an act or something quality. I am just gonna bite the bullet and swap the t2 trans dshaft rear and axles in over the winter. I abused the **** out of it for 6k though. Still not worth it.
