Question question about ebay air filter for 2nd gen

hi, wonder if anyone has any opinions about those air filter from ebay. they are not Blitz, not K&N, not APEX.

also, I wonder if the cone air filter or HKS mushroom filter does any good to the car without the "true" cold air box, or headlight cover mod. because I think that sucking all those "HOT, HOT" air from engine bay with those open aftermarket air filter doesn't do any good to our 7s, right? the same idea like intercooler, because we want cool air, not HOT air.

Don't be a cheapass, the K&N's aren't too expensive. heh. I wouldn't spend the cash on anything more though.

As for the hot air thing, yeah the general consensus is that cone filter without cold air system sucks. Although in personal experience, I put one on in my car and I haven't gotten around to constructing a box for it yet. It works great, better than I had hoped. Will it work better after I build a box? Yeah, probably. But it's still a hell of a lot better than the stock airbox.

You're right, a big chunk of the gains from reduced intake restriction are cancelled out by the increased intake temps.

I got a cone from ebay for 7 bucks. came with maf adapter and was bone dry when I got it. I oiled it and put it on, got me good gas milleage and seams to be constructed just like a K&N but with an inlet in the front. I just stuck it on where the stock box was and seams to rev a little quicker. might be 2HP gain on a cold dry day. cheaper than autozone replacement though.
