question about cleaning engine rotors

So i finally got up off my *** and took apart my motor. i did some searching and decided to soak the rotors in simple green. i read in another thread that after you soak the rotors in simple green that you should rinse them off. So i did that, dried them off, well actually i only rinsed one off cuz it was finished faster, and i put it on a shelf. a couple days later it had a bunch of rust on it. i guess my question is, are they still useable? and what did i do wrong? how can i prevent this from happening in the future? i wasnt planning on using these rotors anyway, i was gonna use some s5 rotors, these were basically just practice.
thanks

Isn't Simple Green pretty much water-based? or you use water to dilute it sometimes... anyway, that's probably why they're rusted.

rotors are metal, metal rusts unless you put a protectant on it after rinsing it with water and handling it. rotors originally were zinc plated but most of the time more than 50% of the zinc plating is gone from age and wear.

I don't think they would be damaged from a little surface rust... Maybe soak them again in that simple green, or use steel-wool to clean off them rust, rinse them, use compressed air to dry them (cavities especially) and then spray them with a nice coat of WD-40. Probably not a big deal.

as for the rust on ur rotors, you are going to have to clean them off with something, steel wool i dont know about but that might work and a coat of wd would work very well.........but anyway get them thangs clean so i know that's the way to go
