question about the break in period

my mechanic, who has been working on rotaries for the last at least 13 years, told me if the bearings etc weren't replace for the rebuild, then the 1000 miles isn't necissary... he told me just take it easy for a few hundred miles and it should be fine... whats everyone elses thoughts on this?

What about the seals? You want to make sure that they build good compression before you get too high in the revs.

Be safe not sorry. When I rebuild my engine this summer I will be limping it around for a long time. To much $ to take any chances.

I break in every engine no matter what was replaced. A small blip up to 5k will not hurt once in a great while, just keep it uner 4K for a thousand miles or so.

I Redlined my car only after I put over 4,000 miles, and I believe the more miles you wait, and also with the owners patience, I firmly believe you can get high life expetancy on Turbo II blocks. Also proper lubrication, temp, maitenance is also critical, such as oil changes, and adding a little bean oil every other fill up helps as well to lubricate the seals. On my Turbo II I just got out off a block 7 years, and 240,000 miles, before she finally retired due to low compression, and a extreme overheat. Due to a radiator rubber cap seal (under the radiator cap broke on the highway causing the cap to explode, and my motor overheating severly.
