Question Question about the 90 GXE sunroof.

Is that just a vent or is it supposed to slide back after it is open?

There is a bolt to the rear of the sun roof that will let you manually crank it open. If it doesn't want to go, don't force it. There is a write up somewhere about fixing them, I'll try to find it real quick.

Here's a thread with a pretty good writeup on sunroof repair:

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/removal-repair-sunroof-411947/

You'll also find a bunch of information in the FSM (see page 66 and following):

http://www.teamfc3s.org/main/factory...91/14_Body.pdf

By the way, before tearing into it, if this car is new to your cousin, make sure he knows how the sunroof control button works. If you hold the button in, the rear edge of the roof will pop open, but you have to release the button and hold it in a second time to get the roof to open the rest of the way. This is different from the way most modern sunroofs work, so I thought it was worth mentioning.

Good luck!

I haven't had to do the full removal myself yet, but from what I understand, it helps to have a friend available when you're lifting the sunroom mechanism and frame back into the car.

I've owned an FC with and without the sunroof. Although it apparently adds about 80 pounds of unwanted weight, I definitely prefer having it.

Oh I have to apologize. I accidently linked the Bam! link to a FS thread i made. I was working on two different threads at the same time and got the links confused. It was by no means a way of redirecting or advertising my FS ad. Sorry.

If you can't manually crank it open, you will have to remove the entire assembly from the car and disassemble it from there.
