Question

When takin gout the shifter, i just took out the tranny. And i had to take out the whole shifter, my question is the rubber shift boot under the leather one, is ripped. Where u take out the 3 screws to release the boot to take out the shifter, it's ripped right before the ball....is that okay? Or does it really matter?

Thanks

well, it lets oil out, and heat, and eventually, the spring on the bushing will catch in there, bend, and pop out, and your shifter will feel like it's going to fall out on you. $22 at mazdatrix, called the innfer shift boot. I just replaced mine

Yeah, thats how mine was, and eventually it bent the spring for the bushing so badly that it flopped around, broke, wore out, and was left in little tiny peices eventually, but anyway, yeah just get a new one while you're at it, and be sure to put the blue shifter bushings on before you put the inner boot on, it's a bitch to get that thing back off!
