Putting on New Battery Terminals

Search wasn't a whole buncha help for me with avery minute problem. I've got new battery terminals and prositive is fine. Before I put on the new negative, however, I realized there are 2 wires going into the stock terminal. A big on and a smaller one. Can I just cut, strip, and put both together in the same terminal? I assumed that's the old setup but I'm not sire if they should be separated in the terminal contact area as well. Let me know rotorheads. Thanks to everybody for your help.

umm, when I look at my battery there are two wires going to my positive and only one going to my negative... are you sure that you have two nagative/ground wires?

EDIT: Positive side of the Alternator and the other goes to the positive side of the wiring harness where it branches off to the rest of the car.

If there are two wires it is not stock and perhaps you might want to chase it to where it goes and see if it is needed.

I can't check right now, but I think I have two wires to my negative terminal as well, that appear to be very stock. I replaced my battery terminals last summer.

I just clamped the two wires together on that terminal.

Thanks for all your helpful replies. I believe (although I haven't checked) that I just said negative but meant positive. Either way, it sounds like it isnt a big issue and I can just clamp both together. I'll be sure to chase the smaller #2 wire to it's source to make certain that it is necessary first, though, and update everybody if necessary.
